The first C-2 Greyhound prototype flew in 1964, with production beginning the following year. The initial models underwent a comprehensive overhaul in 1973. In 1984, the U.S. Navy procured additional aircraft, designated as Reprocured C-2A or C-2A(R). By 2010, these C-2A(R) planes were upgraded with new eight-blade propellers and advanced navigation systems featuring a glass cockpit. Starting in 2020, the U.S. Navy began phasing out the remaining 27 C-2As, replacing them with 38 Bell Boeing CMV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, with full deployment anticipated by 2028.
