VF-151 "Vigilantes" Fuel Low, Navy Fighter Squadron flying the F-4 Phantom II

In July 1961, the squadron moved to NAS Miramar and began three WestPac deployments aboard USS Coral Sea. In January 1964, they transitioned to the F-4B Phantom and deployed for their first Vietnam War cruise, flying nearly 1500 combat sorties. Their second Vietnam deployment was in May 1966 aboard USS Constellation. The third deployment from July 1967 to April 1968 on USS Coral Sea saw their CO, CDR Gillespie, become a POW and his RIO, LTJG Clark, die in captivity. In March 1968, they operated off Korea after the USS Pueblo capture, and deployed again in September 1968. Their fifth deployment in September 1969 aboard USS Coral Sea included over 2100 combat sorties.
